Introduction of Global China Research Programme

The Global China Research Programme, established in September 2015, is a multi-disciplinary research programme with a global vision and a mission to promote research work relevant to China’s global engagement. Our strategic research clusters are:

  • Economic opportunities and challenges arising out of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI);
  • Reception of and reactions to China’s global outreach;
  • Institutional framework of coordination for regional cooperation; and
  • Humanistic ramifications and overseas Chinese.

At present, 47 researchers and experts from 12 CUHK research units and seven Faculties have joined hands to initiate research projects, organize events, and disseminate output. We have built a network of collaboration in 34 Belt and Road countries. A multi-faceted “CUHK BRI Databank” was established to include comprehensive statistics for 76 Belt and Road countries and regions.

The Better Hong Kong Foundation

The Better Hong Kong Foundation is a politically non-affiliated, privately-funded, non-profit making organization. It was established in 1995 by a group of influential local business and community leaders in Hong Kong who were committed to the territory and wanted to share their confidence in its future with the corporate and political leadership overseas. The Foundation is a realization of this vision, actively liaising with counterparts in the West and updating them on Hong Kong’s dynamic activities in trade, finance, business and communications.

The Foundation’s principal objective is to help build a better Hong Kong. To this end, the Foundation regularly works with local and international academic institutions and research institutes in conducting surveys and studies, and in organizing forums and conferences. The results of these allow the Foundation to make informed proposals and assist in the long-term development of Hong Kong. Additionally, the Foundation organizes frequent high-level delegation visits to overseas countries to update the international community on the latest developments in Hong Kong affairs, and to encourage exchanges between leaders in Hong Kong, China and the West. The Foundation also receives overseas delegations and visiting journalists who are in here to learn more about China and Hong Kong first hand.
